Multi-bot chat on Poe

Today we are adding an important new capability to Poe: multi-bot chat. This feature lets you easily chat with multiple models in a single thread.

Multi-bot chat is important because different models have different strengths and weaknesses. Some are optimized for specific tasks and others have unique knowledge. As you query a bot on Poe, you now can compare answers from recommended bots with one click, and summon any bot you prefer by @-mentioning the bot - all within the same conversation thread. This new ability lets you easily compare results from various bots and discover optimal combinations of models to use the best tool for each step in a workflow.

For example, if you are looking to learn more about a particular subject, you can query Claude 3 Opus and compare the response to GPT-4 or Mistral Large with one click. You can do in-depth analysis with Gemini 1.5 Pro’s 1M token context window, @-mention Web Search bot into the conversation to pull in up-to-date information about the topic, and then bring a specialized writing bot in to complete a writing task, using the context from all of the previous bots. Or if you are looking to generate an image, you can prompt DALL-E 3 and compare the output to SDXL, Playground v2.5, or any other image generation bot on Poe.

AI is moving at an incredible pace, and as new models are released, our goal is to provide easy ways to interact with them and combine them with all of the existing models. We expect these workflows involving multiple models to become increasingly important as the diversity of the model provider ecosystem continues to increase.

And as this diversity increases, the cost of maintaining multiple subscriptions to all the different model providers keeps increasing. With Poe, you’re able to access all of the most powerful models, and millions of user-created bots built on top of them, all with a single $20/month subscription. With multi-bot chat, we’re streamlining this even further, enabling you to compare and combine the strengths of these models in a single thread.

We are so excited about the ability to use multiple bots together on Poe that we have evolved our logo to represent it! This new logo will roll out to the Poe apps across all platforms over the coming week:

You can try multi-bot chat today at https://poe.com/ and across all Poe apps. We are excited to hear all of your feedback and will be incorporating it as we continue to work hard to make Poe the best place to chat with and combine the wide diversity of emerging AI products.

We’re excited to announce that Poe is now available in seven new languages: French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish. This will allow more people across the globe to ask questions, get instant answers, and chat with a diverse range of AI-powered bots using a product in their native language.

This announcement marks a significant milestone in our goal to make AI accessible to everyone worldwide, regardless of language. These languages are supported by Poe clients on all platforms: iOS, Android, MacOS, and Web. Poe provides access to OpenAI’s GPT 4, GPT 3.5, and DALL-E 3, Anthropic’s Claude Instant and Claude 2, Google PaLM, Llama 2, Mistral 7b, SDXL, and millions of other bots created by users.

As Poe expands across the globe, we invite you to help shape the experience for everyone by creating your own bot on the platform. Whether you’re a creative thinker with an idea for a no-code prompt bot, or a developer looking to create your own server bot, Poe provides a platform for you to build on AI models from any technology provider, on top of a multi-platform UI, reaching millions and monetizing your creations.

While creator monetization is currently limited to users in the U.S., we intend to expand support for other countries soon. You can see more information at poe.com/creators, or learn about creating a bot at developer.poe.com.

Today’s release is just one step in a long journey toward making AI more accessible worldwide. We can’t wait to show you what’s coming next!

If there’s a language you’d like Poe to support, please let us know at feedback@poe.com.

Today we are launching the ability for any bot creator on Poe to generate revenue! This is a major step forward for the platform and we are very excited to see what it lets everyone create. The program will support both prompt bots created directly on Poe, and server bots created by developers who w…

Today we are officially launching the Poe API to all developers!

As we mentioned in our initial launch of Poe back in December, from the beginning of Poe, our intent has been to provide technology to enable broad access to LLM-based services, analogous to how the web browser enabled broad access to internet services.

We expect a diverse ecosystem of LLM-based services to soon exist, with applications like tutoring, language learning, role playing, psychological support, socializing, games, coaching, and much more. We want Poe to enable anyone building a chat-based service on top of LLMs to easily reach a large audience around the world without having to build their own user interfaces.

In our view, Poe has been quite limited so far in that the only language models available have been from a few providers: Anthropic, OpenAI, and Neeva. We now are enabling all developers to build bots on Poe, including both customers of Anthropic and OpenAI who are building more complex products on top of their models, other AI companies who are training their own language models from scratch, or anyone using LLMs from other sources.

There is an incredible explosion happening right now in open source LLMs. We think the resulting democratization of the ability to train and fine tune LLMs will benefit society by limiting concentration of power, and by allowing people to have the choice to use a model that shares their values. We hope we can play a small role in this new ecosystem by making it easier for everyone in the world to discover and use a wide diversity of models.

As a developer, supporting Poe is very easy. We created a simple protocol to talk to bots that runs over HTTP, and we have sample code for you to get started. We also have integrations built into Langchain and LlamaIndex, and a one-click Replit template to start with a demo.

Benefits that come from building an application on Poe:

  • Distribution to millions of users already using Poe
  • Native applications across all platforms (Android is almost ready) for the best user experience using your product
  • Persistent user history, cross-platform sync, and other supporting features so you can focus just on what’s unique to your application
  • Easy tools for people to share the output from your bot to drive growth
  • Feedback from users (e.g. likes and dislikes) that you can use to improve your product
  • Monetization (in the future)

On top of all this, by building on Poe you will be attaching yourself to a platform that is growing quickly and will continue to get better at a rapid pace. We are heavily investing in adding features and will be prioritizing the top requests from developers.

You can get started by reading the documentation on our Github at github.com/poe-platform.

Please remember that our API is targeted at developers who know how to write at least a small amount of code. For those who don’t, we have a separate way to create a bot on Poe based on a simple prompt, which is accessible at poe.com/create_bot.

We are very excited to see what this platform enables now that it is open to the world!

We just launched a new feature on Poe: user-created bots. This initially allows anyone to create a new bot based on a short text prompt and an existing bot used as a base. We currently support Claude instant and ChatGPT as base bots.

We’ve seen a lot of great experimentation with prompts on LLMs both among the community on Poe and across the internet, and it’s amazing how much value prompting can unlock from language models. We hope this new feature can help people who are talented at prompting share their ability with the rest of the world, and provide simple interfaces for everyone to get the most out of AI.

Here are some example bots we’ve created:

We’re looking forward to seeing what you’ll create as well!

Some benefits of using this as a creator:

  • People using your bot will have the same easy-to-use Poe UI across all devices, including iOS, desktop web, and mobile web on Android. We take care of syncing conversation state across devices and persisting user history.
  • Each new bot gets an easy-to-share URL at poe.com/botname. You can share it with friends to test it out, or publish the link anywhere on the internet to share it with the world.
  • Within Poe, people have access to bots they’re following or have recently used from the sidebar so they can easily get back to your bot later. And we’ll highlight the best bots to everyone so they get more exposure. Over time we hope to help people find the bots that are most relevant to them.
  • We cover the costs of operating all this, including the LLM fees, which can be quite expensive for an individual if a bot gets popular.
  • You’ll get feedback on how people are using your bot, so you can iterate on improving it over time (we’re still working on this part).

Note that creating a bot through this method just requires writing a natural language text prompt and does not require any programming. We are separately developing an API that will allow anyone to host a bot from a server they operate, which will allow more complex bots. If you are interested in beta testing that, please contact developers@poe.com.
